Newbie faq - O.M.T. OMT, not to be confused with OMD, stands for Oversize Military Tax in Nev parlance. It's a measure of the weight of your military against your population.
Background OMT has been around on Nev for years. It was introduced originally in empires with over 250,000 population, and was extended to all empires in a bid to combat low level empires made up entirely of mechs which were able to easily beat any balanced empire of that level.
Effects If your empire has OMT, then you will be unable to declare war. You will also be charged a certain amount of money per nevday.
cause & Solution Every unit takes up a certain number of "support points", based on its type and weight (see table below). Your population generates support points for use. If you use more SP then you generate, you get OMT. The amount of SP your population generates can be found on the Finance > OMT Calc page. If you have OMT, the best solution is to build more residential buildings, and thus increase your population. Alternatively, reduce your military, especially in mechs and hover/wheeled vehicles. Remember towers can shoot further than vehicles and don't use SP at all.
Details Certain units have different SP values to those given in the table above. Starter pack mechs are all 0 SP, and any units you have over the unit cap (10,000 currently) count double towards OMT, starting with the most expensive. You can avoid mechs contributing towards OMT by stabling them, using the "send to duelling stable" button on the mech info page. The mech will no longer count towards your overall BV, and will not be usable in war. You may also sell non-dp/player-made mechs back to NASI for 75% of their market value. The exact formula for the SP available is as follows: SP = MAX [ 20 , Pop/100 , Pop/(50 + Pop/5000) ] Thus you can never have less than 20sp; and above 250,000 pop, SP increases linearly. Click here for a graph of population vs SP. The formula for the cost of OMT, is (A = SP available, U = SP used, assuming U > A): $ = 1500 * (U-A) * (U/A)
