Mercenary FAQ

Being a mercenary is a fairly obvious choice of occupation for a Neveron player. Of course, it's also quite dangerous for the empire involved - there is no such thing as black ops, and often if one empire steps out of line, their entire faction or even alliance can be up for destruction.

Mercenary is one option you can put empire class points in, and it is quite useful. At level 1, your dropzone cost is reduced from $25mil to $10mil, a massive saving, and at level 2 you can accept defence contracts, allowing you to protect empires of greater or equal level. Since FWAR has been disabled, FWAR contracts at level 3 are now useless, as are pirate killing contracts at level 1.

Mercenary level Benefits Disadvantages
1 Dropzone cost reduced by $15mil +25% building cost
2 May accept defence contracts -25% commercial income
3+ Application only contracts -25% research multiplier

So, essentially the only useful thing you can do as a mercenary is set up a defence contract. A defence contract allows you to attack anyone who declares war on the empire you are protecting, no matter what their level. Go to the War Room tab and click Mercenaries. Click the Employers seeking Mercenaries button to see what contracts are currently available. However, most contracts are set up between friends for free, to discourage people gangbanging someone who is attacking.
