Newbie Guide - NeV acroNyMs & jargon

Neveron is a complex game that has evolved over more than five years, and thus has acquired numerous abbreviations and acronyms for various systems, alliances, etc, that are fairly unintelligible to the uninitiated. Thus, you can consider this a cheat sheet of sorts - I hope to list every useful acronym or abbreviation in common Nev parlance, and maybe explain what they mean. The first list is general acronyms, below is the list of unit abbreviations.

Ammoed Ammo Critted Caused an ammo crit which causes explosion.
AOW All Out War Another online mech game.
B Back Rear of a vehicle.
Batt Battalion Group of three companies (36 units).
BE Breakeven The cost at which something must be sold for you to not make a loss on its manufacture.
bil Billion $1,000,000,000
Bill Bill The best admin ever. He now runs a PC repair business.
BMs Basic Metals Level one resource.
BP Battleplay Pilot someone else's units.
BP Building Points Number of points required to make a building.
BPer Battleplayer The person who BPs.
BT Battletech The boardgame on which Nev is based.
BTH Base To-Hit The skill of your gunner, ie what you need to roll to hit something before any modifiers are applied.
Bug Fuckup. Unplanned feature.
BV Battlevalue A measure of the strength of your military.
CBT Classic Battletech The boardgame on which Nev is based.
CF Cease Fire System whereby you have a reprieve from being attacked for 12-36hrs after you lose a certain % of your empire in a war.
CF Construction Factor How big a building is.
CFY Clan Frozen Yogurt Old joke faction.
CGB Clan Ghost Bear Defunct clan alliance.
Chet Chester LaPointe Very famous Neveron player. Ran for Congress or something.
CJF Clan Jade Falcon Clan faction. Mostly forgotten.
Clam Clammer Derogatory term for a Clanner.
Clanner Clan member Member of a Clan faction.
CM Clan Mongoose Defunct clan faction.
CMs Combustibles Level 2 resource.
Comms Commercial Buildings Buildings which provide employment and tax.

Comp Company Group of three lances (12 units).
Core To core To kill a mech by destroying its CT.
Core Core Zones A group of adjacent heavily defended zones (usually in large empires) which contain the bulk of an empire's defence and infrastructure.
CRB Clan Rabid Badger Defunct clan which produced the famous industrial solvent CRB Beer.
Crit Critical Hit Hit which causes some form of extra damage.
CS Comstar The successor to WoB.
CT Centre Torso Centre of a mech's (front) upper body.
Cult Cult Defunct elite landwar DP whore alliance.
CW Clan Wolf Anti-HoC alliance whose leader specialises in fighting solely with cheap market mechs and jeeps.
DC Defence Contract Mercenary contract whereby the merc automatically DoWs anyone who DoWs his employer. See the Mercenary FAQ.
DD Ðëa†h Ðëalërs Elite landwar faction headed by Xeno.
DEE Desirable Entertainment Epitome Legion's appointed court jester.
DEST Draconis Elite Strike Team Alliance made up mainly of German players. Anti-HoC.
DFA Death From Above Physical attack performed by jumping onto an enemy unit.
DoS Dutchy of Small Old empire, long-since merged.
dotkay ~dotkay mattbot3's random kick script.
Doubler DP Zone Doubler DP option which doubles the effectiveness of a zone (in build speed, research, income or factories) for a real year.
Double Kill Double Kill In an arena, when a match ends with both sides wiping each other out at the same time.
DoW Declaration of War Uhm... declaration of war.
DP Donation Points Points buyable with real life money that can be spent on various things.
DP Double Punch Punching with both a mech's arms.
DP Mech Donation Point Mech Mech which can only be obtained through spending DP.
DP Whore Donation Point Whore Someone (or an empire) which uses expensive DP mechs almost exclusively.
DR Diplomatic Relations Treaty Treaty enabling you to send mail to a specific empire.
DZ Dropzone Remote zone from which you attack an enemy empire.
ECM Electromagnetic Countermeasures Means of countering enemy sensors.
EID Empire ID Identification number for empires.
EV Engineering Vehicle (Removed) vehicle which helped increase build speed.
F Front Front of a vehicle.
FA Foot actuator Mech movement part.
Faction Mail Faction Mail Mail that is viewable only by those in your faction.
FAQ Frequently Asked Questions Questions you'd get called names for asking.
Farm Infra Farm See Infra Farm.
FC Frozen Chosen Extremely large empire, owned by the current NevLord, Michael Klien.
Flamer Flamethrower Extremely short range energy weapon.
FDOW Declaration of FWAR Declaration of factionwar.

FID Faction ID Identification number for factions.

GP Genyosha Prime The first empire ever to research mechs.
GR Gauss Rifle Range 22 ammo weapon that does 15pts of damage.
H Head Least favourite place to be hit while piloting a mech.
HD Hotdrop To attack remotely by dropping mechs from a dropship into an enemy zone.
Headcap Head kill To destroy a mech by blowing off its head, killing the pilot.
HH Havok's Harrassers Alliance, allied to NC.
Hida Fushu Hida Fushu Award Award awarded nevyearly, originally for the worst dueller, now for the person who loses most money in the betting arenas. The prize is a Mackie mech. Named after the original worst dueller. Chet has won it the most times.
Hip Hip Actuator Mech movement part.
Hippo Flatlands Dueling Stable The dueling stable once got renamed to this.
HL House Liao A neutral alliance led by Lionheart.
HoC Harbingers of Chaos Premier alliance of Neveron - top dogs for several years.
Hop Half-Op IRC channel administrative helper. See Op.
HP Hawke Protectorate HoC-allied faction.
HpC Hotpocket Cult Alliance run by Arkidda.
HS Heatsinks Means for removing the heat generated by firing weapons.
I3042 Invasion 3042 Another CBT-based game.
IDF Indirect Fire (Cannon) Weapon that doesn't require line of sight.
ilKhan ilKhan Overall leader of all clans.
Inf Infantry Foot soldiers. Also known as fodder.
Infra Infrastructure Buildings and stuff that isn't units.
Infra Farm Infrastructure Farm An empire which has insufficient BV to defend its copious infra.
Init Initiative Number representing time to move. Higher init means more time.
INT Internals Internal structure, usually applied to mechs.
Intel Intelligence Information on an enemy.
Invasion Invasion 3042 Another CBT-based game.
IRC Internet Relay Chat Standard communication tool. See the IRC FAQ.
JGL Jim's Giant Locusts One of the largest empires on Nev.
JJ Jumpjet Means for a mech to cross unfavourable terrain.
JSDC Joint Strategic Defence Council Alliance, part of LIFE.
k Thousand 1,000.
Khan Khan Leader of a clan.
Kizo KizoKuin Alliance The top dog alliance before HoC came along. Reformed as the Neveron Commonwealth
L Left Left hand side of a vehicle.
LA Left Arm Left arm of a mech.
LA Lyran Alliance Once its own alliance, then part of AMI, now its own alliance again.
Lance Lance Grouping of four units.
Landwar War Killing enemies.
LC Landing Craft Transit to remote zones.
LC Lyran Commonwealth Defunct alliance dedicated to research.
Legion Legion Neutral alliance.
LIFE League of Independent and Free Empires Neutral alliance.
LL Large Laser Standard medium-range energy weapon.
LL Left Leg The left leg of a mech.
LLA Lower Leg Actuator Mech movement part.
LM Land Management Research to reduce the cost of land ownership.
LT Left Torso Left hand side of a mech's (front) upper body.
Login Login Access (to an empire).
Login Abuse Login abuse To use a login to an empire in a manner that would be contrary to the empire owner's wishes.
LOS Line of Sight The ability to see something without it being obscured by buildings or hills.
LRM Long Range Missiles Range 21 missile weapon.
Lvl Level Size of an empire.
LW Landwar Raping and pillaging.
MA Mech armour The armour plating for mechs.
Madman Madman The original NevLord.
Market Mech Market Mech A mech that can be bought from the Mech market with nevcash, ie is not a Convention mech or DP-only.
mattbot mattbot A series of IRC bots coded by mattbuck with various nev-related functions. See the mattbot3 help page for more info.
MDP Mutual Defence Pact Political treaty whereby two groups agree to defend each other from attacks.
Merc Mercenary Contract killer.
MG Machine Gun Extremely short range ballistic weapon.
mil Million $1,000,000
MIS Mech Internal Structure Internal structure of mechs.
ML Medium Laser Short range energy weapon.
Mob Mobilisation State where a unit is available to attack.
Mods Gunnery Mods DP option to make all weapon RNG rolls of 2 into 12s, and 3s into 11s.
MP Movement Points A measure of speed.
MPOGD Multiplayer Online Game Directrory Directory of online games.
Multi Multiplier Chance of a person skilling down.
NAP Non-aggression Pact Agreement between two parties not to attack each other.
NASI Neveron Arms Sales Inc. The admin "empire" which sells all non-player-made mechs.
NC Neveron Commonwealth The reformation of the KizoKuin alliance. It died once after its leader sold out, then was reformed again in 2006. Continually at war with HoC.
Nev Neveron The game.

OotBD Order of the Black Dragon Elite landwar empire owned by Xeno.
Op Operator IRC channel administrator.
OTK Order of The Terran Knights Originally a raiding faction for HH, now an anti-HoC alliance in its own right.
PC Partial Cover Modifier for to-hits, gives +3 on the BTH. On mechs it means you can only hit the upper body.
Peel You really don't want to know Oh, go on then.
PM Private Message Message viewable only by sender and recipient.
PMs Precious Metals Level 3 resource.
Pop Population The number of residents of an empire/building/city.
PPC Particle Projection Cannon Standard long-range energy weapon.
PubMail Public Mail In-game mail viewable by all empires.
Quest Autoquest Basic combat orientation scenario.
R Right Right hand side of a vehicle.
RA Right Arm Right arm of a mech.
Raid Raid 12 hour mission to remove all defence from a city without it being a fully fledged war.
Randy Randy Shepardson The guy who created Neveron.
Rats Pirates Removed feature where AI would attack your empire randomly.
RB Repair Bay Building used to repair units.
REs Radioactive Elements Level 5 resource.
REEs Rare Earth Elements Level 4 resource.
Regiment Regiment Group of 3 battalions (108 units)
Research Multi Research Multiplier Percentage showing how fast your empire is researching, with 100% being full capacity without any bonuses.
Resi Residential Residential building. Adds pop to empire.
RL Real Life Something about a sun and grass... probably a figment of an overactive imagination.
RL Right Leg Right leg of a mech.
RCT Rear Centre Torso Centre of a mech's (rear) upper body.
Rep Reputation "Points" gained by pilots for killing units.
RF Research Facility Basic facility where research is conducted.

RNG Random Number Generator The way dice rolls are emulated.
RP Research Point Unit of research.

SES Small Empire Subsidy Extra income given to all empires whose base income is below $500,000 per Nevday.
Seth Seth Admin/dogsbody.
Sim Arena Simulator No risk arena where you can test your mettle against AI-controlled opposition.
SL Small Laser Extremely short range energy weapon. NOT a penis.
SLDF Star League Defence Force Neutral alliance, formed in late 2006, founded to bring roleplay back to Nev.
SOI Sphere of Influence System much akin to control zones around cities in games like Civilisation. Controls how many units you can garrison in your cities.
SOL Sword of Light The successor to Ryuken, still just as inactive, but now noticeably smaller.
SRM Short Range Missiles Uhm... missiles that are short range.
ST Stealth Tower Unarmed tower used to stall and/or detect enemy units.
Stable (To) stable Send a mech to the dueling stable.
Stables Dueling Stable Zone where mechs do
Starter Pack DP Starter Pack 20DP package giving you $50mil and four shit mechs. Not worth it.

Tent City Tent City A city of maybe 200 or so pop, one of many scattered around the face of Neveron in a mid-level landwar empire so that enemies have to do numerous hotdrops to surrender the empire, and thus pay exorbitant costs to do so.
