The Archive - The Platonian (2006) - Nostalgia section
dsf iMages I recently discovered a treasure trove of old images from DSF on my old computer (a 1GHz machine running Windows ME - I think I managed three days o f uptime with it once) that I'd thought were deleted. So, here they are, slightly resized in a few cases (why Kyle thought a 1275*815 sig was a good idea I'll never know), and with some sort of history.
We'll start our journey with a few backgrounds for the forums. Presented here are the "Detstar Blue", "Hallowe'en" and "Rainbow" backgrounds. The first of these was the the forum background for a long time, and my personal favourite one. The second was one of Det's predictable "OMGZHALLOWEENLOLZ" attempts, and the third was an edit I used on my profile page for a while.
These three were some of my avatars over the years. On the left, the Chrysler Building in New York; in the middle, some guy making a tennis ball levitate; and finally Boris Johnson.
The three banners you see displayed here were made by dDG as possible replacements for the main forum banner, the second and third being Christmas ones. Needless to say they were never used.
Now... the infamy of Kyle's sig. Kyle, as you may know, runs The Wash Cycle. He used to call himself Windcutter16, thus earning the nick WC. However, his first attempts at sigs were... disastrous at best. The top two here are his first two sigs - note the misspelling of "Windcutter" on the first one. The second one (known as "The Rat") is apparently meant to be based on Brian Jacques' Redwall novels about anthropomorphised animals. The text underneath it reads "Go the searat with the cutlass" - quite what this says about his state of mind is open to debate. The third image below was made by Jordan. if I remember correctly, as a parody of the sig. It's worth including.
A few random forum images to consider now. First there are two maps - the USA from my perspective, and the world from Bush's. Apparently I consider everything west of Bush to be West Virginia (that was probably derived from several DSF members coming from WV), and as for the world map... it's fairly self-explanatory (click for full-size view).
Moving on, we have the Detstar Cake. This was trotted out for... pretty much every occasion to be honest, except for dDG's moderation, which got a special one. It does look exceptionally delicious in that lovely shade of green... just the right colour for a cake...
This is called "ddguitar.jpg" but quite why I don't know. Oh well...
Next up, the ancient enemy of DSF - Matt Jackson. MJ ran a site called The Goldeneye Depot, which shamelessly stole content from Det's The Terrorist's Goldeneye Site. Thus... we waged war. A very nonviolent war, which just meant that once or twice a year we would spam their forums and they would spam ours. It was... pitiful really. Then we saw this and we realised what a dork he is.
